Duke University Hospital’s annual All-Staff Event motivates and inspires the hospital’s more than 10,000 employees to embrace a unique system-wide commitment to transforming healthcare in the Triangle by continuing to lead the nation as one of the best places to work, practice medicine and receive care. Duke University Hospital contracts with Contrast Creative annually to develop all branding and graphic design, as well as produce a series of videos featuring inspirational patient and team stories.  “A Waiting Heart” features the story of 10-year-old Samantha Riggs who came to Duke Children’s Hospital suffering from inflammation in her heart.  She was hooked up to a Berlin Heart ventricular assist device – which she fondly named Bertha – that helped pump her blood.  While waiting for a heart transplant, Sam suggests that a celebration is in order. What the Duke Hospital healthcare team does next is an excellent example of creating the best Patient Experience possible for their young patient.

 

Results

The All-Staff Event, which was presented in three identical sessions over two days, featured informational and motivational remarks from Duke leadership, as well as videos produced by Contrast Creative. Based on survey results, the Event is helping to boost Duke University Hospital’s work culture and patient satisfaction scores.  “A Waiting Heart” is featured on the Duke Children’s Hospital website.
