I’ve been silent.

Nervous to say “the wrong thing,” but feeling such empathy and solidarity for human beings suffering systemic racism. As a communicator, I’ve focused my career on educating through storytelling. I’ve interviewed thousands of diverse people, but never with a list of prepared questions. I’ve had meaningful conversations with like-minded people and those whose viewpoint is miles away from my own. I’ve listened and learned.

Practically imperfect in every way, I’m still listening, growing and committed to sharing relevant information that hopefully promotes understanding and genuine unity.

The Contrast Creative team worked with the Duke University Office for Institutional Equity to produce this Diversity and Inclusion video for Duke employees a few years ago. It’s message is timeless. Before working on it, I had never examined my own biases-both implicit and explicit.

If you have time today to listen and learn, please consider watching this video. Silence is complicity.
