Dr. Lockhart fused her interest for special effects make-up with her passion for medicine and uses her talents to assist with medical simulation training.  Traditional medical training uses the See One, Do One, Teach One method, whereas medical simulation training uses computer-controlled technologies and staged scenarios involving professional actors. One of the greatest benefits of medical simulation training is that it doesn’t pose a potential health risk to real-life patients. The special effects make-up techniques used for these trainings are referred to as moulage; an art that has been around since the Renaissance period and includes the creation of anything ranging from body parts, vomit, wounds to blood. Dr. Lockhart worked with us to create the perfect mixture of arterial and venous blood, as well as blood clots, using simple ingredients found at your local grocer. Apparently, real blood has the same viscosity as corn syrup – YUM!

Check out Dr. Lockhart on set, and hear what she has to say about the importance of moulage in medical simulation training. Stay tuned to contrastcreative.com for another segment featuring Dr. Lockhart’s special moulage recipes!
