Contrast Post Production: Where the Magic Happens
09.26.08
The production process occurs in three distinct phases: pre-production, production, and post-production. Pre-production is the where the planning, concepting and overall organization takes place, production encompasses the actual shoot days, and post-production is “where all the magic happens,” says Contrast Creative President Tim Travitz.
“I believe it is the most important part. Post-production truly brings the show alive,” says Travitz whose unique and innovative editing style has helped Contrast Creative win countless industry awards.
Travitz, who edits on the most advanced Avid Adrenaline system, is the one who takes all of the individual elements—the script, narration, visuals or b-roll, graphics, and music—and expertly weaves them together. “I usually read the script and sees what comes to me. After that, I digitize footage and see what interesting shots stick out,” he explains.
In Travitz’s mind, music is the glue that holds the entire production together. (Contrast offers clients’ custom music creation or an extensive music library.) “Music is really my driving force,” he says. “Music sets the tone. A lot of times it ties the show together and gives the finished piece an identity.”
Another important way to give a show a one-of-a-kind identity is in its unique “look.” Oftentimes, producers come to Travitz without a completely formed idea of how to tie their elements together, and somehow he makes the impossible happen. “I get ideas everywhere,” he explains. “I pay attention to the latest commercial trends on TV, in print ads, and even movie trailers. Sometimes I discover an idea that won’t work for a particular project so I store it away. It’s exciting when I find a place for it later.”
What Travitz relishes the most, however, is his involvement with the Contrast Creative team. “I can say 100% that we do the best work around,” he says. “Everyone here at Contrast is talented and important. The scripts are innovative and fun. The shoots are well organized with every detail handled, and our photography is unlike any other. I just think our photographer’s have ‘it.’ Even simple talking head interviews are lit like no other. We specialize in the art of lighting and photography.”
Contrast Creative also specializes in post-production where finished products look like none other in the marketplace.
