Contrast Creative Teams Up with Duke Hospital for First All-Staff Event
06.15.10
On June 2nd and 3rd, Duke University Hospital held its first All-Staff event at the Durham Performing Arts Center in Durham, North Carolina. This event, which was based on Sharp Healthcare’s award winning “Sharp Experience,” was created for the hospital’s more than 10,000 physicians, staff and volunteers. With the theme “It Takes A Team,” Duke Hospital contracted with Contrast Creative to develop videos for the event that would motivate and inspire all employees to embrace a unique system-wide commitment to transforming healthcare in the Triangle by becoming the best place to work, practice medicine and receive care.
“We’ve been privileged to tell the Duke Hospital story for more than a decade through film and video,” says Contrast Creative’s President Tim Travitz. “And we were honored to join the Duke team in launching this significant event.”
The All-Staff Event, which was presented in three identical sessions over two days, featured informational and motivational remarks from Duke leadership as well as four videos produced by Contrast Creative. One of the videos entitled “Team Stories” highlighted several Duke employees who have gone above and beyond their assigned roles and done something meaningful to enhance the patient experience. Another video focused on three intriguing and inspiring real-life patient stories.
“We traced each patient’s diagnosis, treatment and eventual successful outcome. Each story had its own unique dramatic twists and turns, but shared one commonality—the skill, dedication and compassion exhibited by the entire Duke team towards individual patients. From the housekeeping staff to the hospital chef to the nurses on the floor and all the way to the surgeon in the OR, everyone has a significant role to play,” says Kathleen McDonald, Contrast Creative’s VP and Creative Director.
The closing video “Take the Team Challenge” encouraged Duke Hospital employees to develop a special plan to differentiate the care they provide in their specific hospital department from the care provided anywhere else. The more employees who are willing to take the team challenge and uphold the hospital’s mission, vision and values, then the closer Duke Hospital will be to achieving success. Success is not defined by monetary gain, but by the positive impact on patient care delivered to the community.
“Based on survey results, the event seems to have had a meaningful impact on Duke Hospital employees by helping them connect hospital priorities with the honor of being able to serve patients during their greatest time of need,” says Travitz. “These findings have prompted Duke Hospital to schedule a second All-Staff Event for June 2011. Contrast Creative is thrilled to provide our skills and expertise to ensure the second event is as compelling and rousing as the first one.”
