Supporting China’s Orphans
03.03.08
Heavy snow and bitter cold are pummeling parts of China this winter, destroying crops and causing extensive damage. Some of the hardest hit in this catastrophe are the country’s youngest and most vulnerable—babies and children living in orphanages where food, water, diapers, formula, warm clothing, quilts, and coal are desperately needed. In an effort to provide vital assistance, Contrast Creative joined with Red Bowl Asian Bistro, and Panther Creek High School’s National Honor Society students to raise funds for Half The Sky Foundation’s Little Mouse Emergency Fund.
“Our team was touched by this tragedy, and wanted to do anything we could to help the little ones in need,” says Kathleen McDonald, Creative Director at Contrast Creative, and mother of an adopted Chinese daughter. “This is a cause that is close to my heart, and I am inspired by my team members who supported this fundraising effort.”
Contrast created “Save A Life” t-shirts and designed posters to promote the event that took place on Sunday, March 2nd at the Red Bowl Asian Bistro in Cary, NC. For every meal purchased, Red Bowl donated a percentage of the gross receipt to The Little Mouse Emergency Fund. Additionally, PCHS NHS students and Contrast staff collected individual donations for the fund.
Contrast’s Sheri Williams, Accounting and HR Manager, brought her husband and daughter to the event, “We are so fortunate here in America and at Contrast Creative. It just feels good to reach out and do something to make a difference in the world,” says Williams. “I’m proud of our company’s involvement in this philanthropic effort,” she added.
When all of the receipts were tallied, Contrast and its fundraising partners raised more than $3,300 for the Chinese orphans. “This is a worthy sum of money,” says Williams, “when you consider that the average Chinese worker earns between $572 (USD) and $1,907 (USD) in a year’s time, according to the National Center of Statistics.”
